I must confess that in recent months I haven’t give Twitter the time that I used to give it.

Why?

Well, even with my 1000s of followers, it made little difference to my bottom line when I consider all the hours that I put into updating it, even with the occasional automatic updating software.

I know that many of my subscribers have felt the same way.  Just work out how many hours you spend messing with Twitter and see what you get back in sales or traffic to your website.

Now, in more recent months, I’ve been hearing about a piece of kit called ‘Twittollower’ which is an online system for getting you followers very quickly.  Yes, yes, I know what you’re thinking, the same as I did when my inbox started filling up with offers to go and read about the software pre-launch, I thought, NO! not again … more Twitter stuff that doesn’t work.

Twitter began getting very funny about people who would follow others by the truckload hoping that they would follow back.  I don’t blame them either.

The problem was, the followers were not targeted very accurately to your niche and all you ended up with were loads of followers who weren’t really interested in you or your products.

So, seeing Twittollower launched on 1^st Feb 2010 made me wonder what all the fuss was about, after all, it was just another ‘quick fix’ to get followers, wasn’t it?

I decided to sign into it after a regular student of mine gave me his honest opinion after I asked him what it was really like.  There was I waiting for him to tell me that it was crap when he started to give me the run down of how each day went by with a noticeable difference to his sign-ups and response rates after posting to the followers that Twittollower had gained him.

Unique visitors from Twitter were appearing on his statistics for his blogs and websites.

He was even able to install a plugin to his Wordpress blog that automatically sent his posts to Twitter in order to have something for his followers to read and also have links for them to follow.

The good thing is, you simply don’t have to look for followers, the Twittollower system find them for you based on your niche.

All you do is open a brand new Twitter account, do nothing with it yet, open a Twittollower account, follow three simple steps and leave it.

You still make the usual posts to Twitter but your followers will come in their droves.

I decided to sign up on behalf of Internet Marketing Bugle readers to see if it was worthwhile before they invested in it themselves.

What was the result?

Fascinating, to say the least.

People were following me immediately and, what’s more, taking an interest in my posts.

Each hour the number of followers increased.

24hrs on and my following figure stands at 120 and I didn’t do a thing as Twittollower did it all for me, sending traffic to my site, non stop.

I have taken screen shots to prove to people that this really was the case.

I have made a few tweets, of course. Although they have been mostly generated by a plugin on my WordPress blog that tweets an announcement that I’ve made a new post.  You’re shown this plugin by the nice people at Twittollower, it’s free to install and use.

Finally, if you’re thinking that you could do what Twittollower does, only for free, well, here are two alternative views;

The first is that while you can add followers for free, adding over 130 per day would be both mind-numbingly boring and time-consuming.  I certainly wouldn’t consider it a good use of my time and  I’m sure most effective marketers would feel the same.

Free has its place, but not if getting free costs you in other ways.

The second view is that you have to remember that Twittollower guarantee to get you 2000+ new followers each month.

If you think of each follower as a sales lead, that means each lead has about a 3 cents acquisition cost. And that is outrageously cheap!

Of course, once you have them, you have them forever, so you pay to get them once, but can profit from them over and over again.

In the UK, leading brands have [...]]]> Twitter has launched “Promoted Tweets” which gives brands the opportunity to pay to post their Tweets in the first search result. This allows brands to jump to the first position on trending topics.

Illustrated below is a Promoted Tweet for Starbucks who have chosen to advertise in the #nowplaying trending hashtag.

In the UK, leading brands have reacted with interest and some of the first brands to use Twitter to promote their brands include Best Buy, Bravo, Red Bull, Sony Pictures, Starbucks and Virgin America.

Twitter users’ reactions to the prospect of promoted tweets on Twitter has been mixed. Tweets covering brands that carry sentiment are typically low –  most are informative or promotional – but the hashtag #promotedtweets seems to be carrying large negative sentiment at present. Techcrunch have been tracking sentiment and estimate that over 70% of Twitter users are unreceptive to them.

Their opinion aside, the next few weeks/months will be key to see if Promoted Tweets have any real and measurable return on investment for brands migrating marketing budget to this new channel.

I spoke over the telephone to one of those call centres from abroad.  Now, I’ve nothing against those who speak with an Indian accent just as long as I an understand them.
I was finding it awfully difficult to communicate the guy at the other end simply because his accent was so strong. 

Obviously mine was too because he kept asking me to repeat what I’d just said and also ‘misheard’ several points.

Understanding your words is one thing but understanding exactly what you mean is a difficult task for someone who’s never lived in UK and understands our way of putting things, language wise.

Anyway, it was a Monday evening in the UK, about five minutes to midnight when I finally decided to call Virgin Media about my intermittent Broadband connection.
I’d be happily downloading files when I would notice that the little green line had stopped moving.  This kept happening and so I eventually called support.
After finally understanding my problem, we had a call booked in for an engineer to visit my home and fix the Internet connection.
Friday morning was the earliest that he could manage. 

Five days of ‘now you see me, now you don’t’ broadband is not funny.

Thursday evening it switched off altogether, totally dead.

Friday morning the engineer didn’t turn up.

Obviously, the Indian guy did not understand my problem or he didn’t understand how to book an engineer properly, one or the other, probably both.

Anyway, I called Virgin Media support once more enquiring as to where the engineer was.  ‘There was no engineer visit booked in for you at all sir’ was the reply to my enquiry.
The following Tuesday was the only available slot for the next attempt.  Could I stand four days without the Internet?  I had to  as it was what we  in the UK call a Bank Holiday and nobody calls to repair a broadband fault over this period.

Come Tuesday, the Virgin Media engineer called at 8am sharp.  Rubbing by eyes and adjusting my dressing gown, I let him in.

He repaired the fault immediately as he knew what the cause was.  It was the green box.

Outside of my home is a metal green box with all the connections of my neighbours who were also on cable TV, broadband or telephone.

Apparently my connection, known as a Siamese board (as it has two parts) had been unplugged from inside this green box and moved to a lower location.

The connections are supposed to be made in a certain configuration in order for the voltage to be uniformly distributed to each connection, however, the ‘contracted in’ engineers don’t subscribe to this method of connection and simply plug both boards into ANY available slot.

This may well mean moving my broadband board to a lower position in the cabinet and this is what causes my broadband to either be intermittent or not work at all.
It NEEDS to be in position number TWO at the top of the cabinet.

The engineer explained that every time another household in the street get a problem, their boards get moved into a different location which, in turn, means moving someone else’s.  This, more often than not, cures the problem …. for a short while.

The contracted in engineer can book the job as completed and book off home early.

Then, after a few days, the problem arises on the other person’s connection.  And so it goes on.

And on.

Nearly all call-outs come down to simply moving someone’s connection to another slot in the green cabinet. 

What’s the answer?  The engineer said, ‘Every time you see a Virgin Media van outside with someone messing with the green box, go out and tell them NOT to move your card out of slot two, otherwise the same thing will happen over again’.

Great, there am I paying a premium price for 50mb broadband and I have to stand guard outside of my house just in case some unscrupulous engineer wants to perform a quick fix and slide off home early.

British workmen, ‘eh?  I bet they don’t get this trouble in India.

comparing PPC (Pay-Per-Click) advertising and SEO (Search Engine
Optimization). I will outline the advantages and disadvantages

CPC is a very effective marketing tool. The efficiency of the
advertising is easy to track, therefore making the return on
investment (ROI) figures easy to determine. ROI is determined by
how many click-throughs resulted in a sale. Unlike print
advertising, where a company may spend thousands of dollars on
one ad that very few people may see, CPC allows business owners
to see exactly how many people clicked on the ad and what
percentage of those decided to purchase something. If the revenue
exceeds the costs involved with getting the customers to the
site, then the business is making money.

Auto-Bidding

Many CPC engines are now offering "auto-bidding" to make things
even easier for their clients. If Company A puts in a maximum bid
of 10 cents, they have determined their limit per click. However,
at the moment they may only be paying five cents. If Company B
decides that they want to move to the number one spot and ups
their click-through rate to six cents, the auto-bidding feature
will up Company A’s bid to seven cents so that they will remain
in the first position. And they didn’t have to constantly monitor
the situation.

Attracting Visitors

Choosing specific keywords means that you can specifically target
different types of consumers based on which keyword they type in.
By promoting more targeted keywords, you are much more likely to

Increasing Branding

If a customer sees a company listed at the top of the sponsored

the cost of the term is worth; how much they are willing to pay
each day; and how long the campaign will last. All of this is

For those on limited budgets, this can mean that some of the
larger players will gain more exposure because of their financial
ability to pay more per click. But having the budget doesn’t
necessarily mean becoming number one. It takes patience,
determination, creativity, keyword selection and daily analysis
to be successful.

Just because someone clicks on a link, it doesn’t necessarily
mean that they will buy. Some people are just doing some research
and may click through to see what else is being

Click-Fraud

It is said that anywhere between 10-15% of all clicks you
receive is click-fraud. This means that you only have 85% of your
clicks to try to convert a visitor into a customer. Click-fraud
will always be around as your advertisers click on your ads,
click-farms exists, and people continue to use the content
networks. If you want to limit the amount of click-fraud, avoid
the use of the content network as this traffic is where most of
the click-fraud is derived.

All in all, both methods can be very effective, however you are
at the mercy of Search Engine algorithms if you decide to use SEO
techniques. One day you could have a top-listing and then the
next day it could be removed from the search results entirely.
